Easy Kid Friendly Rice Crisp Cereal Treats


Looking for a fun, kid friendly treat that the whole family can enjoy? Why not try making rice crisp cereal bars? This quick and easy kid friendly recipe has been around for almost 70 years.

The beauty about making rice crips cereal bars is you only need three ingredients: rice crisp cereal, marshmallows and butter. Rice crips cereal treats require minimal supervision (to melt the butter) and that's what makes it a kid friendly recipe.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups of rice crisp cereal

  • 10 ounces marshmallows (regular or mini)

  • 3 tablespoons butter (salted)



  • Cooking Directions

  • In a large pot or large saucepan, melt salted butter over very low heat

  • Add the marshmallows a little at a time - stirring constantly

  • Continue stirring until the marshmallows are completely melted

  • Remove from heat

  • Stir in the rice crisp cereal until it is well coated with the marshmallow/butter mixture



  • Preparation

  • Spray a 9 x13 inch baking pan with non-stick spray



  • Add a layer of parchment paper or wax paper to the 9 x 13 in baking pan. Make sure that paper overflows the pan by 6" inches on each side (optional)**

  • Using a buttered spatula. mold the crisp cereal/marshmallow mixture into a 9 x 13 in baking pan. Make certain the mixture is spread evenly

  • Let cool

  • Cut into squares when the mixture cools.



  • Yield
    Makes 24 squares.

    ** using the parchment paper or wax paper makes it easy to pull the crisp cereal mixture out of the baking pan.

    Stir hot chocolate until hot chocolate mix is completely incorporated
    Add candy cane

    Baking Soft Pretzels with Your Kids

    SOFT PRETZEL RECIPE

    Ingredients

    1 packet of active dry yeast
    3 teaspoons dark brown sugar
    1 1/2 cups warm water (105 - 110 degrees F.)
    1 tablespoon salt
    4 cups all-purpose flour
    Cornmeal and extra flour for dusting worksurface
    Coarse kosher salt


    • Combine yeast, 1 1/2 teaspoons brown sugar, and water. Let stand 5 minutes until foamy.
    • Add remaining sugar and salt and mix well.
    • Add flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing by hand until completely mixed .
    • Knead dough until nice and smooth about 7 minutes and has a shiny look.
    • Put into a bowl and let stand with a cover on it for 40 minutes in a place that's good n' warm.
    • Dust where you're going to work with flour and cornmeal.
    • Divide dough into 12 pieces and roll out to the length and thickness you want. (Note: thinner=crispier).
    • Make dough into pretzel-shapes and put on a baking sheet that has been dusted with cornmeal.
    • Allow pretzels to rise for 30 minutes.
    • Make sure they're uncovered.
    • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
    • Bring a large pot full of water to a boil.
    • Carefully put risen pretzels to boiling water with a spatula and boil on one side for 2 minutes,then you flip and boil other side for 1 1/2 minutes.
    • Move boiled pretzels to a rack to drain for a minute.
    • Put pretzels on a baking sheet, lightly dusted with cornmeal, and sprinkle with coarse kosher salt.
    • Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

    Slice banana into 3/4 inch slices
    Place sliced banana on 1 piece of bread with peanut butter
    Top with the other slice of bread
